The Puma infantry fighting vehicle is the modern successor to the Marder and was developed for the German Army’s Panzergrenadier units. The production standard represented by the 2018 vehicle features an unmanned, remote-controlled turret armed with a stabilized 30 mm MK 30-2/ABM autocannon, capable of engaging targets while on the move, together with a coaxial 5.56 mm MG4 machine gun.

The Puma has a crew of three – commander, gunner and driver – and carries six infantry soldiers. Its modular protection concept combines composite armour with the MUSS soft-kill self-protection system and allows the protection level to be adapted to the mission. In its heaviest configuration, the vehicle can weigh up to approximately 43 tonnes.

Powered by an 800 kW (approx. 1,090 PS) MTU diesel engine, the Puma reaches a maximum road speed of around 70 km/h and has a road range of up to 600 km. Advanced thermal imaging and observation systems, digital networking and high cross-country mobility make it a highly capable modern infantry fighting vehicle.
